We are both active Ffestiniog Railway volunteers Ffestiniog Railway volunteers. We both started on the Buffet Cars - Stewart in March 1987, and Sarah in May 1988. Through the FR Sarah gained her initial First Aid certificate.

Palmerston at Boston Lodge (1993) We are both qualified Guards. Stewart is also a Controller and a Signalman. Stewart was the Volunteer Co-ordinator for the Operating Department from 1990 to 1998. Stewart qualifed as a Guard for the Welsh Highland Railway (Caernarfon) operated by the Ffestiniog Railway in 1997.

After many years as a stationary boiler at Boston Lodge, followed by a period away from North Wales, Palmerston was restored to service in the early 1990's. Here he is rounding Boston Lodge curve in 1993.

The Ffestiniog Railway has its own Web Site. The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway operates out of Porthmadog from a site next to the Cambrian Railway Station. These Railways are members of the Great Little Trains of Wales organisation.

Our Volunteering visit in 1998 was incorporated with the MG Snowdon Run, but it was took good an opportunity to resist taking some pictures of the MG next to FR sights. Where better than Penrhyn station next to two of the Double Fairlie Locomotives. The two in service on 18th August 1998 were Earl of Merionydd, built in 1979, and David Lloyd George, built in 1992. The third double fairlie, Merddin Emrys (1888) was withdrawn from service in 1997 for major boiler work and rebuild.

In May 1999 we took the MG to the FR again for Railffest '99. This time we posed the MG with the Rheilffordd Eryri NGG16 Garrett, number 143 at Caernarfon. MGB GT and NGG16 at Caernarfon
